Description
Two young girls share a quiet moment at the piano, one seated with a sheet of music open before her, the other standing close behind with an arm resting on the instrument’s raised lid. Their heads tilt toward each other in conversation, one girl’s hair tied back with a pale ribbon, the other’s pulled into a loose braid down her back.
Renoir washes the whole scene in soft, pale color, pink in the girls’ dresses and cheeks, pale green and turquoise in the wall behind them, and warm cream in the piano and tabletop, so that the figures seem to emerge gently from the light rather than being sharply outlined. A vase of flowers glimpsed at the upper right adds a last small note of color to the tender, domestic scene.
Held at the Hermitage Museum, this 1892 depiction of shared music-making is available as a wall art reproduction. This Young Girls at the Piano composition is offered as a museum-quality canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and shipped worldwide.
