Description
Renoir paints a young woman seated outdoors in a garden, absorbed in her needlework. She wears a striped blue grey dress buttoned high with a black bow at the throat, and holds a piece of white embroidery or linen across her lap. Her chair is only half visible in the dappled shade behind her.
She is framed by a dense screen of foliage rendered in flickering greens, blues, and touches of yellow, with a bright sunlit clearing glowing at the upper left where tiny figures stroll. Below and to the right, a bank of white, pink, and rust colored flowers spills into the foreground, painted in the broken, energetic brushwork of Renoir’s early Impressionist years.
What is offered here is not the original but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, sized to match the original 46 by 38 cm study or scaled up for a larger wall.
