Description

Two slender trees rise through the whole height of the picture, their canopies filling the upper half in dark green flecked with red and blue. Between and beyond them, a band of blue water crosses the canvas. A white sail stands at the centre left, a dark red brown sail closes the far left edge, and a paler sail sits away to the right.

On the far bank, houses with pink and grey roofs show among trees. On the near one, two figures stand together, one in blue and one in pale rose, with more small figures further off; two more sit at the lower left, one of them in pink with a hat. The ground is dappled ochre, blue and green throughout. Renoir signed at the lower right.

The composition is built on the two trunks, which cut the view into three and force you to look at the water through them rather than at it.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Choose a size and presentation in the options above. Both editions keep the original image proportions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which sizes are available?

You choose the short edge, from 30 up to 150 centimetres; the other edge is derived from the proportions of this painting itself, so the picture is never trimmed to fit. Each option is listed in centimetres and inches. Our catalogue holds no recorded measurements for the original, so the eight standard sizes are all that is offered, without an original-size option.

Which medium can I choose?

Either of two reproductions of this canvas. The default is a hand-painted oil reproduction, painted in oils on canvas. The alternative is a canvas art print. You then choose the finish: rolled, stretched on a chassis, or set in a thin or a thick frame.

How is it delivered?

It is made for your order in the size, medium and finish you choose. The production time for the medium you pick is shown with the options on this page, and shipping is calculated at checkout for your delivery address.
