Description
A dead pheasant lies stretched across a bed of snow, its body angled diagonally across the canvas. The bird’s plumage is rendered in rich bands of bronze, rust, and black, with a dark green head and pale neck ring, and its long, barred tail feathers extend toward the upper right. Sharp talons curl at the end of its legs, and a few blades of grass and reed poke up through the snow around it.
Painted in 1879, this still life is a study in texture and color rather than narrative, letting the bird’s plumage play against the cool blues and whites of the snow.
The Pheasant is reproduced as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in the size of your choice and shipped ready to hang.
