Description
In this tabletop arrangement, a round white porcelain sugar bowl decorated with red roses and green leaves sits beside a gleaming silver-blue cup, its metallic surface catching cool reflections of white and blue. A silver spoon rests in the foreground, its bowl also reflecting the surrounding light, and Renoir signs the work in the upper left corner.
An olive-green cloth fills the background, warmed by patches of ochre, giving the whole scene the loose, glowing brushwork typical of the artist’s late still lifes. Painted around 1910 and now in the Museum Langmatt, Sidney and Jenny Brown Foundation, this canvas shares its subject with related sugar-bowl-and-cup still lifes Renoir painted in the same period.
Our reproduction of Sugar Bowl and Silver Cup is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in a range of sizes and delivered ready to hang.
