Description
A white ruffled porcelain vase overflows with pink and white chrysanthemums and daisy-like blooms, set against a richly patterned tapestry background of blue and gold diamonds. In front, spread across a white cloth on a wooden table, lie several spiky prickly pears in green and orange, along with a peach or pear, their rounded shapes contrasting with the delicate flowers above.
Painted in 1885, the canvas pairs an elegant, almost decorative bouquet with the rougher, sun-warmed texture of the prickly pears, a combination that gives the still life real visual tension. It is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Still Life with Flowers and Prickly Pears is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and shipped ready to hang.
