Description
Two women share this garden scene: one stands at the center, her form loosely painted in warm orange and cream tones, appearing to hold a shallow bowl or basin at waist height; the other sits at lower left, wearing a yellow dress and a wide-brimmed straw hat, her face and hands sketched in soft pink strokes. Around them, dense, colorful foliage in gold, green, and rose fills most of the canvas beneath a pale blue sky.
Painted in 1919, near the end of Renoir’s life, the work is rendered with the loose, glowing brushwork typical of his final years, dissolving figures and garden into shimmering color. It is held by the Barnes Foundation.
This painting is reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and delivered ready to hang.
