Description
A preparatory oil sketch made in 1885 for Renoir’s painting ‘Au jardin’ (‘In the Garden’), showing two children’s heads set close together on an almost bare, unpainted canvas ground. The nearer child wears a straw hat trimmed with a yellow ribbon and looks down with closed eyes, while a second small head, turned in profile, leans in from the right.
Renoir left much of the canvas untouched in this study, so the loose, unfinished brushwork is part of its charm. It is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on artist-grade canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, made to order in the size of your choice, available framed or unframed, and shipped worldwide.
