Description
A woman in a black riding habit and a tall black top hat sits tall in the saddle atop a pale dun horse caught mid-canter, its dark mane flying and forelegs lifted off the sandy path. Beside her, a young boy in a fawn jacket rides a smaller grey pony, holding his own reins with quiet concentration as the pair make their way through the Bois de Boulogne. Behind them, slender trees and a glimpse of a lake dissolve into loose, dappled brushwork, giving the whole scene the feeling of a bright morning outing caught in motion.
Painted in 1873 and now held at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the canvas is one of Renoir’s most ambitious equestrian portraits, its scale and poise closer to a formal society painting than a casual park sketch.
This print reproduces the horses’ warm dun and grey coats and the crisp black of the riding habit with the same tonal depth as the original, offered as a museum-quality giclée on canvas or fine-art paper and available in several sizes to fit different spaces.
