Description
A man is seen almost entirely from behind, hunched over a writing table with a sheet of paper under his hands. His dark, tousled hair and the curve of his cheek are all we get of his face; the rest of the composition is given over to the grey folds of his jacket and the wooden chair he sits in, its back turned toward us.
Renoir sets the figure against a wall split between rust red and mossy olive green, with the desk and floor rendered in loose, warm browns. The brushwork is broad and economical, more interested in the twist of the shoulders and the quiet concentration of the pose than in surface detail.
This piece is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, a faithful reproduction of Renoir’s original painting rather than the original itself.
