Description
Two wind rounded trees, their foliage brushed in yellow green and touched with rust, dominate the right side of this small landscape. Between and beneath their canopies, a distant village of pale rooftops nestles in a valley, with rolling blue violet hills rising behind it under a soft grey blue sky streaked with a single pink cloud.
A grassy, sunlit slope fills the foreground, painted in loose, curling strokes of green and gold that echo the rounded shapes of the trees above. The high, airy viewpoint and the warm, breezy handling are typical of the countryside views Renoir painted around 1890.
The painting is part of the collection of the Barnes Foundation. What is offered here is not that original but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
