Description
Glade (Clairière) is a small, loosely painted woodland scene. A slender tree stands at the centre of a sun-dappled clearing, its trunk catching a streak of red-brown paint, while denser clumps of foliage in gold and green close in around it. In the distance, soft blue-violet hills rise beneath a hazy pink and blue sky, and a patch of blue water glints in the grass at the lower right.
Renoir works the whole canvas in short, feathery strokes, letting the weave of the fabric show through thin passages of paint. Dusty rose, warm ochre, and pale lavender-blue dominate the surface, giving the clearing a soft, almost weightless glow rather than sharp botanical detail.
Painted in 1909 and held at the Barnes Foundation, the original canvas measures 20.3 by 32.5 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes from a small study format to a larger statement piece.
