Description

Renoir paints his son Coco wearing a wide yellow straw hat trimmed with a red flower and ribbon, its brim shading a round, rosy-cheeked face turned gently downward. The child wears a pale pink smock rendered in loose, sketch-like strokes, set against a muted grey-beige background that leaves the hat and face as the picture’s warmest notes.

Titled Coco en chapeau de paille (Coco in a Straw Hat), this painting dates from 1904 and is held by the Chrysler Museum of Art.
