Description
Painted in 1883 while Renoir was staying on the Channel Island of Guernsey, this canvas gathers a small group of children at the water’s edge. A girl in a white dress and dark feathered hat stands at the center, one hand resting on a smaller child in a pale pinafore and yellow bonnet; to the right another girl in a pink dress with a red sash turns to speak with her, while a boy in a sailor suit sits in the sand in the foreground. Behind them, bathers move through a shimmering band of green and blue water beneath a soft, hazy coastline. Now held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the picture is one of several beach scenes Renoir made that summer, loosely brushed and full of holiday light.
This reproduction brings that seaside gathering to your own wall as a museum-quality print. Choose canvas or fine-art paper, in a range of sizes and finishes, each one made to order for the room it will hang in.
