Description
A bather sits in profile, auburn hair swept up, looking calmly off into the distance rather than down at herself. A thin gold bracelet circles her wrist, and a white cloth is bunched beneath her against a backdrop of blue-green water and trees along the far bank.
Painted in 1891 and held by the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art, the canvas (81 by 65.5 cm) gives its bather an unusually composed, outward-looking gaze compared to the more inward poses Renoir often used. The print keeps the blue-green of the water cool and clear, so the warm profile of the face stays the focal point against it.
