Description

Jeune fille assise sur un sofa shows a young woman reclining against the arm of a sofa, her head tilted back and resting on one raised hand, eyes closed as if dozing. Her loosened green and cream bodice has slipped from her shoulders, and a rust-orange striped skirt covers her lower body, with a wooden armrest and a dark carved table visible behind her.

Renoir paints the figure with soft, blended strokes, giving the skin a pearly luminosity against the looser, more textured handling of the fabric and furniture. The palette moves from cool blue-green in the background to the warm rust of the skirt, with quick touches of gold and red threading through the folds of drapery beneath her.
