Description

A dense mass of orange, red, yellow, and white flowers, chrysanthemum-like blooms with shaggy, curling petals, fills a dark, richly decorated vase. The background is divided softly between a pale pink on the left and a cooler blue on the right, framing the warm colors of the bouquet. On the table below, a few loose blossoms in yellow, orange, and pink lie scattered beside the vase, as if just trimmed from the arrangement.

Renoir works the petals in short, curved strokes of thick paint, letting orange and red dominate while touches of white and pale yellow break up the mass, giving the bouquet real weight and movement.
