Description
Renoir paints a wide view over the Breton coast where the Aven river opens into the sea. Rolling hills in warm rust, ochre, and olive tones fall away toward a curving blue inlet dotted with a single small sailboat, while a pale, luminous sky streaked with pink and gold fills the upper half of the canvas.
In the foreground, loosely brushed grasses and low shrubs in green and gold lead the eye back toward the water, with a distant village and church spire just visible on the far shore. Painted in 1892 during a stay in Brittany, the picture shows Renoir turning his impressionist touch to a broad, sunlit landscape rather than a figure study.
What is offered here is not the original painting but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes to suit any wall.
