Description
In a sunlit garden, a woman bends forward from the left, a basket looped over her arm, offering something toward a small child kneeling on the grass in a bright red dress. To the right another child, in a straw hat and blue smock, crouches over apples scattered loosely on the ground, while a third figure in a wide, ribboned hat stands at the center of the group.
Renoir builds the whole scene from short, feathery strokes of pink, green, and gold, letting the figures and the dappled foliage behind them dissolve softly into one another, in the loose, high keyed manner he favored in the 1890s for everyday scenes of women and children outdoors.
What is offered here is not the original but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
