Description
Painted in 1905, this still life gathers a white fluted bowl heaped with ripe strawberries, their green leaves and stems still attached, beside a blue-and-white porcelain jar with a spoon resting inside. A half-peeled lemon and a small knife lie in the foreground, with a few loose strawberries scattered on the white tablecloth, its edge marked by a thin red stripe. Renoir sets the warm reds of the fruit against a deep reddish-brown background, the porcelain’s blue pattern providing a cool accent. The painting is held at the Musee de l’Orangerie in Paris.
Made to order as a museum-quality canvas or fine-art print, its warm reds and cool porcelain blues make it a natural fit for a kitchen or dining room.
