Description
On a riverbank, a woman in a lavender dress with a dark bodice stands among thick greenery, her gaze turned toward the viewer, while a man in a white shirt and straw hat crouches at the water’s edge on the opposite side of the canvas, absorbed in fishing.
Between them the river opens up in pale, shimmering strokes of pink and grey, reflecting a bridge and a red-roofed building on the far bank. Renoir builds the scene from short, broken touches of color rather than outline, letting the foliage and water blur into one another.
This riverside scene is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order at the size you choose and kept true to the original’s proportions, 46 by 55.5 centimeters, held by the Museum Langmatt Sidney and Jenny Brown Foundation.
