Description
A large sailboat with a single towering white sail takes up most of the canvas, moored at a wooden footbridge on the Seine at Argenteuil. A man in dark clothes and a top hat stands at the end of the plank jetty, while a boy in a straw hat sits at the tiller inside the boat.
Behind them the river opens out, dotted with smaller sailboats and a distant footbridge, and a line of trees closes the far bank under a pale, hazy sky. Sunlight breaks across the water in streaks of gold and blue, and a pair of ducks paddles in the shallows at the lower edge of the picture.
The original hangs in the Portland Art Museum. What is offered here is not that original but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes to suit any wall.
