Description
Jeune femme assise dans la campagne (Lise Tréhot) shows a young woman seen entirely from behind, seated on the grass in an open countryside setting. Her dark hair is pulled back and tied, leaving her neck bare, and she wears a pale grey-white dress with a gathered, voluminous skirt that spreads out around her on the ground. Beyond her, a stretch of green meadow leads to a line of trees and a glimpse of blue water in the middle distance.
The painting is built from loose, rapid brushstrokes, especially in the grass and foliage, which are laid on in broad sweeps of green, yellow-green, and touches of blue. The dress is painted with softer, more blended strokes of white and grey, and the whole scene has the fresh, outdoor immediacy of a study painted quickly in front of the motif.
Painted in 1866, this work is reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit anywhere from a small corner to a larger wall.
