Description

Flowers in a Vase is a lush still life built around a tall green glass vase overflowing with roses, hollyhocks and small white blossoms. Pink and yellow roses cluster at the center, deep red hollyhock spikes rise on either side, and loose sprays of white flowers fill in the gaps, all set against a pale, misty blue background and a dark tabletop. Painted in 1898, the bouquet is handled with the same loaded, blended brushwork Renoir brought to his figure paintings.
