Description
Two bathers share a riverbank: one crouches at the left, dark hair tied up, seen from behind as she reaches toward the water, while the other stands at the right wringing a white cloth at her hip, auburn hair caught with a ribbon. Small figures bathe in the distance, and the far bank rises in golden hillside beneath a pale sky.
Painted in 1916 and held by Sweden’s Nationalmuseum, the canvas (40.5 by 51 cm) pairs its two main figures in a quiet, unhurried moment rather than an active scene. The print keeps the golden hillside warm and glowing behind the pale figures and blue water, holding that late-Renoir contrast between warm land and cool river intact.
