Description
Renoir paints a close, almost abstract study of an elaborately embroidered jacket, the kind worn by a toreador. Thick, loaded strokes of gold and ochre build the fabric’s sheen, while clusters of white, red, and blue touches suggest the dense floral embroidery running down the front and along the shoulder. A dark shadow, perhaps the brim of a hat, cuts across the top of the canvas, and deep maroon and black tones anchor the lower half.
The brushwork here is bold and unblended, closer to a study of light on rich fabric than to a finished costume portrait, which gives the piece an unusually modern, textural energy.
Available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in the size of your choice.
