Description
A dark bay horse stands saddled in a field of tall grass, its head lowered as if grazing, reins loose. Renoir builds the whole scene from quick, streaky strokes of green and dark olive that read as grass on every side, while the horse itself is drawn more solidly: its glossy brown coat, four white-stockinged feet, and a tan saddle with a blue underside catch the light against the foliage.
The sketch-like energy of the brushwork, grass rendered almost like hatching, makes this an unusual and graphic subject among Renoir’s works, well suited to a large-scale reproduction where the texture of the strokes can be appreciated.
Available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose to fit your space.
