Description
A small group gathers in a sun-dappled woodland clearing. At the left, a man in a dark jacket and straw hat stands with his hands clasped, an orange sash at his waist, looking off toward the others. Two children sit together in the middle distance, while in the foreground a woman in a deep purple-blue skirt reclines on the grass, and beside her another woman in a navy blouse and rust-orange skirt sits upright, wearing a wide straw hat trimmed with flowers.
Renoir builds the whole scene from short, dabbing strokes of green, gold and lavender, with dense trees and dappled light filling the upper half of the canvas. The loose brushwork blurs faces and hands into soft patches of colour, keeping the mood relaxed and unposed, as though the group has simply paused mid-afternoon in the shade.
This painting is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclée canvas print, both reproductions of the original held at the Barnes Foundation, not the original work itself.
