Description
A small still life sketch pairs a single round peach on the left with a loose cluster of grapes on the right, both set on a bare, unpainted ground with only a few strokes of green suggesting a leaf or table edge. Nothing else fills the canvas; the two fruits sit isolated and unhurried.
Renoir builds the peach from thick, twisting strokes of red, orange and yellow, and the grapes from small round dabs of amber, plum and touches of white highlight, leaving much of the pale ground untouched. The brushwork is loose and rapid, closer to a study than a finished composition, painted late in the artist’s life.
This piece is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, a reproduction of Renoir’s original sketch, which is held at the Petit Palais and not the artwork itself.
