Description
Painted in 1864, this earlier portrait of Alfred Sisley shows a younger man seated formally, one hand resting on the arm of his chair, dressed in a dark coat with a loose white cravat patterned in pale blue. His gaze meets the viewer directly, calm and composed, while a hint of floral upholstery shows at the edge of the chair behind him. The muted grey-green background keeps all the attention on the sitter’s steady expression. The painting is held by the Foundation E.G. Bührle Collection.
Offered as a museum-quality canvas or fine-art print, made to order, the dark coat and soft grey backdrop reproduce with the restrained, early tonal palette Renoir used before his brighter Impressionist years.
