Description
Gabrielle in a Red Dress is a close, waist-up portrait. The model sits with her head turned slightly down and to the side, her dark wavy hair gathered loosely at the back of her head, a few loose strands falling near her temples. Her expression is quiet and thoughtful, her gaze lowered rather than meeting the viewer directly.
She wears a red dress with a square neckline and visible pleating at the chest, painted in broad, warm strokes of crimson and maroon. Behind her, the background shifts from a deep red-brown on the left to a lighter, striated tan on the right, with a streak of gold near her shoulder suggesting drapery or furniture just out of focus.
Painted in 1908 and held at the Fogg Museum, the canvas measures 55 by 46.5 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes to suit a reading corner or a larger wall.
