Description
A blue and white porcelain platter overflows with pears, pomegranates and dark figs on a green mottled backdrop, its heap of fruit spilling toward the viewer. In front of the platter, on a white tablecloth, a purple eggplant, red peppers, ripe tomatoes and small yellow fruits are scattered as if just set down from the market.
Painted in 1881, the still life is built from rich, saturated color contrasts: the cool green background sets off the warm oranges, reds and deep purples of the produce, while loose white highlights describe the folds of the cloth beneath.
The original, measuring 51 by 65 cm, is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you prefer, true to the original’s proportions.
